Subsidy Removal: Jigawa Proposes N44.7 Billion Supplementary Budget for Critical Infrastructure and Social Services

The Jigawa State Executive Council has given its approval for a proposed supplementary budget of N44.7 billion.

Speaking at a press briefing, Babangida Umar Gantsa, the State Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, disclosed that the supplementary budget aims to finance critical infrastructure and social services during the 3rd and 4th quarters of this year.

Gantsa explained that the decision to introduce a supplementary budget was necessitated by the need to complete ongoing projects and the increased federal allocation resulting from the removal of fuel subsidy.

According to the commissioner, the Ministry of Works and Transport will receive N13.8 billion, the Ministry of Health will receive N2 billion, the Ministry of Education will receive N3 billion, the Ministry of Finance will receive N2.4 billion, and the Jigawa Road Maintenance Agency will receive N2 billion from the supplementary budget.

Gantsa further revealed that the supplementary budget will undergo legislative work and approval at the Jigawa State House of Assembly.

Additionally, Sagiru Musa, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, announced that the council has approved over N192 million for the extension of drainages in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area.
