The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, has emphasized the significance of new media in promoting national unity, development, and internal democracy. During a meeting with members of the Northern Nigeria All Progressives Congress Media Network in Abuja, Senator Barau highlighted the need for social media influencers to direct their efforts towards fostering unity and progress in the country.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the Deputy Senate President commended the work of the APC Media Network and urged them to continue promoting the government’s activities and policies at all levels. While acknowledging the existence of government-owned media outlets, Senator Barau stressed the importance of support from platforms like the APC Media Network in advancing their initiatives.

“What you are doing is commendable. Continue to promote the good things this government is doing to enhance the standard of living for the masses. Yes, there are government-owned media outfits, but we need people like you to support us in promoting our activities. Kindly expand the membership of your association to other parts of the country. We want a situation where if you go to Enugu from Kano, you will feel at home. If you go to Zamfara from Enugu, you will feel at home. This is our country. Let us all be promoters of unity and national cohesion,” he expressed.

During the meeting, the association’s chairman, Bashir Yusuf Shuwaki, announced the appointment of the Deputy Senate President as the grand patron of their organization. Recognizing Senator Barau’s tremendous contributions to the country’s development, Shuwaki confirmed that he would join Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, as a grand patron of the association.
