Works Minister Gives Contractors 48 Hour Ultimatum In Anambra State

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi has given contractors handling Enugu-Onitsha Expressway 48 hours to rehabilitate failed portions on the road or have the contract revoked.

Senator Umahi gave the ultimatum at Amawbia axis of road during his inspection visit to some federal roads under construction in Anambra state on Saturday.

He also visited the failed portions on Amansea axis of the road.

The Minister expressed dismay over the time being wasted in the construction of the roads thereby subjecting the people of the region and road users to untold hardships and economic sabotage.

Umahi, therefore, warned that he would terminate the contracts if they fail to heed to the ultimatum or speed up their work on the road.

Umahi said that “every contractor given contract on federal roads must prove their worth if the government’s objectives would be achieved.”

He also announced that he would facilitate an emergency meeting between the Nigerian Government, the Contractor and Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

On his part,the Commissioner for Works, Ifeanyi Okoma, appreciated the Nigerian government and the Minister for heeding to the urgent call of the state government. He also disclosed that Anambra government has been been embarking on palliative works on the federal roads.

The Comptroller, Federal Ministry of Works, Chukwudi Okpukpara, Anambra state Commissioner for Works, Ifeanyi Okoma, Chief of Staff to Governor, Sir Ernest Ezeajughi, Permanent Secretary Anambra State Ministry of Works, Mrs Stephanie Kelly-Uzor and other directors in the ministry were present.
