EPL: Mikel Arteta’s Decision to Determine the Future of Arsenal Player, Says Brad Friedel

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, Brad Friedel, has made a bold claim, stating that Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale will eventually leave the club at the end of the season. This comes as a result of manager Mikel Arteta signing David Raya during the summer transfer window.

Arteta’s decision to start Raya in recent victories against Everton and PSV Eindhoven has raised questions about Ramsdale’s future at the Emirates Stadium.

Ramsdale has been the first-choice goalkeeper for Arsenal since his arrival in 2021.

However, Arteta has insisted that he will be rotating between Ramsdale and Raya on a regular basis. Nonetheless, many speculate that the Spanish international has been earmarked as Arteta’s permanent number one.

Brad Friedel shared his thoughts on the situation during an interview with talkSPORT, saying, “I thought from the second they signed him [Raya], they signed him to be the new number one. I don’t think you pay that much money for someone with one year left on their contract. I know he signed an extension and went on loan, but that was for other reasons.”

Friedel further added, “It’s very harsh on Ramsdale, but it is ultimately the coach’s decision. I’m assuming that by the end of this season, Ramsdale will find himself in a similar situation to what Matt Turner experienced last season, having to look for a new club to play for.”
