The Federal Government has approved a salary increase for the staff members of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). This announcement was made by the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, during a long service award ceremony organized by the NPA management over the weekend. Sambo praised the agency’s management for their dedication to staff welfare and commended the Managing Director, Mohammad Bello-Koko, for his exceptional performance in revenue generation and remittance.
During his remarks, Sambo recalled his initial visit to the NPA after assuming office as Minister of Transportation. He noted that Bello-Koko had requested support to expedite the processes necessary for implementing the salary increase, to which he readily agreed. “Today, I am delighted that it has been achieved,” he stated. The Minister also extended his congratulations to the awardees and all NPA staff for their commitment, assuring them that the ministry would continue to prioritize their welfare.
Earlier in the event, Bello-Koko expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its support in facilitating the salary increase. He acknowledged the contributions of everyone present, stating, “We would like to use this opportunity to appreciate everyone here for their support towards the delivery of salary increases for our dedicated staff.” He emphasized that enhancing the agency’s human capital has been a primary objective of the management and affirmed their commitment to this noble cause. Bello-Koko also highlighted the agency’s efforts to ensure 100 percent occupational health and safety for staff, which has led to the ISO certification of Calabar and Onne ports, reaffirming their dedication to continuous improvement in this area.
