Empowering the Nigerian Military

The Nigerian Army has taken a significant stride in addressing the country’s security challenges with the recruitment of 6,315 new soldiers.
The journey to becoming soldiers for these 6,315 recruits commenced after successfully passing through a rigorous selection process and reporting for training at the Depot Nigerian Army on June 3, 2023.
During the passing-out parade of the 85th Regular Intake recruits at the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria, Kaduna State, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, praised the young soldiers for their successful completion of training.
General Lagbaja expressed confidence that these recruits will bolster the manpower needs of the Nigerian military, providing competent and combat-ready soldiers.
Emphasizing the importance of training and welfare, General Lagbaja stated, “We strive to transform the Nigerian Army into a force that is well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities in collaboration with other security agencies.
“Our soldiers deserve the best possible accommodation when not on the frontline, as a token of appreciation for their sacrifices.”
The COAS also highlighted the army’s efforts to enhance its medical facilities to ensure effective treatment and care for battle casualties arising from operational engagements.
Reminding the new soldiers of the essence of their duty, General Lagbaja stated, “Soldiering is a life of sacrifice, a pledge to defend our country, and if necessary, pay the ultimate price.”
“As you graduate today, you have answered the highest call of duty that any Nigerian can undertake.”
Following the parade, awards were presented to commend outstanding recruits. The Indian Training Company emerged as the Champion Company and was honored with the Depot Nigerian Army Champion Banner. Recruit Abdullahi Abubakar earned the Chief of Army Staff Award for being the top performer among his peers. Recruit Ugwu Clifford received the Commandant Depot Nigerian Army Award while Recruit Ideba Love won the Chief of Administration (Army) Award. Recruit Edet Samuel was recognized with the Chief of Training (Army) Award.
With the addition of these 6,315 dedicated soldiers, the Nigerian Army is poised to enhance national security and overcome the challenges faced in safeguarding our beloved country.
