Soldiers Swiftly Rescue Woman from Tragic Suicide Attempt at Lagos Lagoon

In a remarkable display of heroism, soldiers from the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army have successfully averted a tragedy by preventing a woman from taking her own life at the Lagos Lagoon, near the 81 Division Officers’ Mess in Marina Lagos. The incredible rescue mission was effortlessly executed by troops of 65 Battalion NA, who acted swiftly upon spotting the distressed woman. Thanks to their military ingenuity, she was saved from committing suicide.

The Division’s spokesperson, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, released a statement on Monday providing details of the incident. According to him, the woman, identified as Francesca Spark, had attempted to end her own life. However, due to the vigilant efforts of the soldiers stationed at the Officers’ Mess, tragedy was averted.

“We are relieved to report that after her plunge into the Lagos Lagoon, the troops immediately rushed to her aid and administered vital first aid treatment,” said Lt.-Col. Ayeni. “Thanks to their exceptional medical team, the woman was stabilized and her life was no longer in immediate danger.”

Following her stabilization, the battalion made contact with Spark’s family and eventually handed her over to her husband, Mr. Ovie Spark, who resides in Awoyaya Lagos. This swift and successful rescue operation is a testament to the soldiers’ unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and well-being of Nigerian citizens during times of crisis.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81 Division NA, Maj.-Gen. Muhammed Usman, commended the soldiers for their exemplary vigilance, ingenuity, courage, and gallantry. Major General Usman expressed his satisfaction that the soldiers’ training in disaster management was effectively utilized in this critical situation to save the life of a fellow citizen.

“This operation serves as a reminder that our troops are not only prepared for combat but are also trained to provide support and assistance during emergencies and natural disasters,” stated Major General Usman. “The safety and well-being of our residents is of utmost importance, and we are committed to protecting them and their property, even in times of crisis.”

The Nigerian Army’s swift and successful intervention in this distressing incident has once again showcased their dedication to protecting and serving the Nigerian people.
