Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed his optimism about building a new Nigeria, emphasizing that other political parties are entrenched in corruption. He made these remarks on Wednesday during a campaign event at Pantami Stadium in Gombe State, where he sought votes for his party, asserting that the solution to the nation’s challenges lies within the Labour Party.
Earlier, Obi met with women at the International Hotel Conference Hall in Gombe, where he appealed for their support. He urged them to utilize their Permanent Voter Cards to effect meaningful change in the country. Highlighting the crucial role of mothers, Obi encouraged them not only to engage in politics but also to guide their children, the youth, to vote wisely in the upcoming 2023 election.
Obi stated, “We are the structure. You are the structure. Their structure is that of stealing and corruption, but we will wipe it away.” He pointed out that in the past, electorates had voted for political parties represented by inanimate symbols. He stressed that it is time for Nigerians to vote for individuals of good character. According to Obi, a new Nigeria is achievable if the right leaders are elected. He remarked, “The 2023 election is an election that will start a new Nigeria that her citizens will begin to trust and have confidence in.” He emphasized that building a new country like Nigeria requires both physical and mental energy.
Obi further urged voters to reconsider their past choices, stating, “You voted for umbrella; it leaked, and you were suffering. You voted for broom; it swept you into poverty. Now is the time to vote for human beings to bring a new Nigeria. It’s time to vote for mama, papa, and pikin (children).” He called for support for the Labour Party, promising to bring government closer to the people. “Go to every corner of Gombe and tell the people that we are the ones they are seeing. We want to bring government closer to the people, which is why we are traveling from North to South to reach people directly,” Obi concluded.
