Appeal Court Upholds Sanwo-Olu’s Victory in Lagos Governorship Election

The Appeal Court in Lagos has upheld the decision of the tribunal, confirming the election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Obafemi Hamzat as the Governor and Deputy Governor of Lagos State. This dismissal of the suit filed by Olajide Adediran, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), solidifies Sanwo-Olu’s position.

In a unanimous verdict delivered by the three-member panel led by Yargata Nimpa, the court dismissed the grounds of appeal raised by Adediran, popularly known as Jandor. Justices Yargata Nimpa, Samuel Bola, and Paul Bassey presided over the judgement.

The affirmation of Sanwo-Olu’s victory comes after the tribunal’s earlier validation of his win in the March 11 election. The justices stated: “Even though they were all pre-election matters, the appellants (PDP and Adeniran) still failed to prove them. The appellants came empty-handed and left empty-handed. They merely enjoyed their day in court. Their petition is dismissed.”

This validation marks a significant milestone in the political landscape of Lagos State, cementing Sanwo-Olu’s position as the duly elected governor.
