Senate Confirms Dr. Aminu Maida as NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman

The Nigerian Senate has officially approved the appointment of Dr. Aminu Maida as the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) following his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The decision, made during the Senate plenary, was based on the endorsement of the Senate Committee on Communications led by Senator Ikra Aliyu Bilbis (PDP-Zamfara Central).

Senator Bilbis, presenting the committee’s report, affirmed that Dr. Maida met all the necessary legal and educational prerequisites for the position at the NCC.

Prior to his nomination, Dr. Maida held the position of Executive Director, Technology and Operations at Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS).

Described as a seasoned technical professional, Dr. Maida boasts over 15 years of versatile international experience in FinTech, Telecoms, and Enterprise Technology, as outlined by the committee. He holds a Master’s degree in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London and a PhD in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath UK.

During the screening process, members of the committee, including Senators Jimoh Ibrahim, Abdulazeez Yar’Adua, Abdul Ningi, and Adamu Aliero, spoke highly of Dr. Maida’s competence and endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s decision.

Senator Ibrahim (APC-Ondo South) specifically commended the appointee, stating, “Going by the very impressive Curriculum Vitae of the appointee submitted to us, his pedigree, expertise and functional knowledge acquired up to the Cambridge University in London, there can be no other better choice for NCC job than him. He has the knowledge and capacity to bring out the best for the country from the commission in terms of better Telecom services and would surely deliver.”

During his interaction with the committee, Dr. Maida expressed his focus on enhancing telecom services’ coverage and connectivity to the most remote areas of the country.

“NCC, under my leadership if confirmed as Executive Vice Chairman by the Senate, would ensure that network subscribers get value for their money, drastic reduction in drop calls, improved network coverage and rural connectivity,” he remarked.

Dr. Maida also emphasized that addressing technological innovation to prevent hacking into subscribers’ accounts would be a top priority under his leadership at the NCC.
