High Court Grants Former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele N300m Bail

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama. The bail sum is stipulated at N300 million. This decision was made by Justice Hamza Muazu during the court’s proceedings on Wednesday.

Justice Muazu directed that Emefiele must provide two sureties, both of whom are required to possess landed property in the Maitama District of the FCT.

Notably absent during the proceedings, Emefiele had been remanded at Kuje Prison since the previous week. It is important to recall that another FCT High Court had, two weeks ago, ruled in favor of Emefiele’s release in a fundamental human rights suit he brought against the federal government.

For the commencement of the trial, the court has adjourned the case till November 28.

More details to follow as events unfold.
