The Gombe State Government has taken a monumental step in tackling the pressing issue of gully erosion by signing a groundbreaking N12 billion contract with Triacta Nigeria Limited. This significant agreement paves the way for the construction of a 21-kilometer gully erosion control project in six towns within the Gombe metropolis.
Amidst an atmosphere of anticipation and hope, the contract signing ceremony unfolded in Gombe, graced by the presence of Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya. His Excellency emphasized the historical magnitude of this project, highlighting its pivotal role in the state’s development trajectory.
Yahaya affirmed that this project represents a crucial leap towards rejuvenating agricultural and environmental landscapes in Gombe State, which have borne the brunt of gully erosion and environmental degradation. Gombe State has long been synonymous with being the epicenter of erosion challenges in the North-east sub-region.
Reflecting on the enduring detrimental consequences of gully erosion, Governor Yahaya underscored its pervasive impact, from posing existential threats to agricultural lands to uprooting communities and imperiling the future of the environment.
He expressed, βThe signing of this monumental contract for gully erosion control, spanning through London-Maidorowa, Mallam-Inna Wuro-Ladde, Wuro-Kesa, Arawa, and Kagarawal, epitomizes our unyielding dedication to the preservation and protection of the environment and the sustenance of livelihoods for our people.β
