The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has stated that President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) is too busy to attend all the campaign events for the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu. Mariya Ibrahim Baba, a member of the Public Affairs Directorate of the APC PCC, made this assertion during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday. She explained that the president has designated specific locations where he will accompany Tinubu for campaigning, emphasizing that it would be impractical for him to neglect his presidential duties in favor of campaign activities.
Baba noted that President Buhari will soon be in Katsina to support Tinubu’s campaign. She remarked, “Buhari is still the president of Nigeria and he has work to do. If you notice, he has outlined the places he will accompany the presidential candidate to campaign, and he has been to other locations, including when we launched our campaign in Jos. He is going to be in Katsina very soon.” She further clarified that it does not make sense for the sitting president to leave his office for the entire campaign period, as he must balance his responsibilities as president with his support for the candidate.
Concerns have been raised regarding the president’s absence from many of the campaign rallies for the APC flag bearer, with the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), mocking the ruling party. Dele Momodu, the Director of Strategic Communications for the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, suggested that the lack of enthusiasm in the APC campaigns is why many senior party members, including the president, have not been actively campaigning for Tinubu.
