FBI Applauds Ola Olukoyede’s Appointment as EFCC Chairman

The American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Legal Attache in Nigeria, Mr. Jack Smith, has expressed commendation for the appointment of Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mr. Smith conveyed this during a courtesy visit to the EFCC corporate headquarters in Abuja, commending Olukoyede’s stellar credentials to lead the anti-graft agency, which he had personally researched.

“I came to congratulate you on your appointment. I did my homework and research and I discovered that your appointment is right.

“I welcome the direction you are taking the Commission; the rebranding and other positive initiatives are good.

In response, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede expressed gratitude for the visit and highlighted the longstanding relationship between the FBI and Nigeria, predating the establishment of the EFCC.

He emphasized that his reform agenda for the Commission aims for more effective and focused anti-corruption efforts.

“It is important that we properly define the focus of the anti-corruption work that we are doing.

The EFCC Chairman further underscored the Commission’s commitment to ethical means of achieving results, not just the results themselves.

“Yes, we will get results, but we are concerned about how results are obtained.”

He pledged continued collaboration between the EFCC and FBI, affirming their partnership in progress. Olukoyede also briefed the FBI team on significant upcoming programs, including a public engagement focusing on youth involvement in cybercrimes.

“We are concerned about the youth of our nation and the need to put them in the right direction. Yes, there are some factors affecting them that are beyond our control, but we will ensure that those factors are taken care of by the necessary stakeholders,Olukoyede emphasized.
