Nnamdi Kanu Optimistic of Victory as Supreme Court Hearing Approaches

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed optimism about the upcoming Supreme Court hearing on December 15. Kanu is hopeful that the Supreme Court will rule in his favour.

The Supreme Court is set to hear the appeal filed by the Federal Government challenging the earlier judgment of the Appeal Court, which acquitted Kanu of all terrorism charges. The appellate court had ruled in 2022 that Kanu’s abduction from Kenya to Nigeria was illegal and quashed the terrorism charges against him, citing breaches of local and international laws by the Federal Government.

In a significant judgment delivered by Justice Oludotun Adefope-Okojie, the criminal charges against Kanu were declared void and set aside. However, the Federal Government, dissatisfied with the ruling, took the case to the Supreme Court, which has scheduled the judgment for December 15.

During a routine meeting with his legal team at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja, Kanu conveyed his hopeful outlook for the impending verdict. His Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, shared Kanu’s positive stance, revealing that Kanu was pleased with the recent victory and anticipates a similar outcome on December 15 at the Supreme Court.

Ejimakor further conveyed Kanu’s sentiments, emphasizing the historical injustices faced by the Biafran people: “Upon the pogrom, you seized their properties in Rivers, cheated them on State creation, starved them of roads, railways & seaport, renditioned their Leader & called them a dot. Now, you trouble them with #demolitions. But you still wonder why they #agitate. Why not? #FreeMNK.”
