FCTA Sets the Record Straight About Lobito Plaza Demolition Rumours

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has dismissed a video circulating on TikTok, alleging the demolition of a plaza on Lobito Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja.

The FCTA clarified that the video is misleading and was actually filmed two years ago in 2021. According to Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press at the Office of the FCT Minister, the building in question was not demolished. Instead, the Department of Development Control addressed an infraction related to its use.

“Subsequently, appropriate measures were taken to address the issue responsibly. Contrary to the claims made in the video, the building was not brought down. Rather, the contravening portion was removed to ensure compliance with regulations,” stated Ogunleye.

To further dispel the rumours, the FCTA attached a current photo of the building, emphasizing that it still stands. The administration emphasized its commitment to enforcing regulations while prioritizing the well-being and safety of residents.

In a strong condemnation, the FCTA denounced the deliberate spread of false information, highlighting its detrimental impact on community trust and security.

The statement also voiced distress over the ethnic undertones associated with the misleading videos, emphasizing the counterproductive nature of such mischief and its potential to cause unnecessary fear and disunity.

The FCTA urged those responsible for spreading misinformation to cease such actions, emphasizing the negative impact on society. Additionally, it reassured residents of its commitment to transparent communication and responsible governance, urging the public to verify information from credible sources before dissemination.
