The apex Igbo socio‑cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has affirmed that the 2023 election will proceed despite threats from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The group expressed confidence that the will of the people will prevail over any distractions aimed at hindering participation in the polls within the South‑East region.

Concerns have been raised about a possible postponement of the general election due to escalating insecurity in various parts of the country, particularly in the South‑East. Reports indicate that gunmen have attacked individuals and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) facilities in an effort to disrupt the upcoming elections.
