The Nigerian film “Mami Wata,” directed by CJ Obasi and produced by Oge Obasi, has received the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Cinematography at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The award was accepted by CJ Obasi on behalf of the film’s Director of Photography, Lílis Soares. The Sundance Film Festival is renowned as one of the most prestigious film festivals globally, making it a significant honor for a Nigerian film to gain recognition at such an esteemed event.

The World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Cinematography highlights the hard work and dedication that Lílis Soares and the entire “Mami Wata” team invested in the film’s visual storytelling. In reflecting on the award, CJ Obasi expressed, “It means a lot. This was a dream; we worked so hard on this. A testament to what we were trying to create with the cinematography of the film.
