Aurelio De Laurentiis: “Napoli Close to Renewing Victor Osimhen’s Contract”

The president of Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has announced that the club is on the verge of extending the contract of Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen has emerged as Napoli’s top striker over the past 18 months, playing a pivotal role in the team’s success by scoring 26 goals and providing five assists, which contributed to Napoli clinching their first Scudetto in 33 years last season.

Following the 2022-2023 season, negotiations for Osimhen’s contract extension commenced. However, both parties faced challenges in reaching an agreement due to disputes over a release clause and the player’s salary demands.

De Laurentiis reiterated Napoli’s advantageous position, citing that Osimhen’s current contract runs until June 30, 2025, granting the club significant leverage in the negotiations.

Despite the prolonged contract stalemate, several European clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea, have expressed interest in acquiring Osimhen’s services in the upcoming January transfer window.

However, renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that a new deal between Napoli and Osimhen is not imminent, further prolonging the uncertainty surrounding Osimhen’s future.

Amidst the speculations, De Laurentiis stunned football enthusiasts by hinting at an impending resolution. He remarked, “With Osimhen, we are about to sign the contract that was pending this summer,” instilling hope for a breakthrough in the negotiations.

Reports suggest that the new deal may include a £130 million release clause, potentially deterring European clubs from securing Osimhen’s signature.

If Victor Osimhen finalizes the new deal before the January transfer window, it could potentially restrict his ability to depart the club mid-season.
