NNPCL Set to Complete Port Harcourt Refinery Phase 2 Repair by End of 2024

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has unveiled plans to finalize the Phase 2 repair of the Port Harcourt Refinery by the end of the fourth quarter of 2024. This revelation was made by the NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, during an inspection of the first phase completion of Port Harcourt Refinery led by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri.

Kyari expressed the company’s commitment to reviving the refinery to continue delivering value to Nigerians. “We are done with phase one. We will complete phase two as promised within 2024, maximum – the last quarter of 2024,” he affirmed.

The Port Harcourt Refinery Company Limited consists of two phases: the old refinery with a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day, and the new refinery with a capacity of 150,000 bpd, amounting to a total capacity of 210,000 barrels per day.

Recently, NNPCL announced the mechanical completion of Phase 1 rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery. It’s worth noting that the Federal Executive Council had approved $1.5 billion for the rehabilitation of the refinery in March 2021. Data further revealed that the Nigerian government has expended N11.35 trillion ($25 billion) in the past decade on refurbishing the country’s three refineries.
