INEC Implements New Retirement Policy for Directors

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the retirement of four directors as part of the implementation of a new policy affecting long-serving public sector officials. This policy, enforced following a Federal Government circular issued on July 27, mandates the retirement of all directors with eight years or more of service.

Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, made this known in Abuja on Wednesday. The affected directors will proceed on terminal leave in compliance with the government directive.

Mr. Olumekun clarified that the retirement policy exempts clinical officers in the medical cadre, as specified in a circular dated September 7. He also revealed that two of the retiring directors serve as heads of departments at the national headquarters, while the other two are deployed as administrative secretaries in state offices.

In bidding farewell to the affected directors, Mr. Olumekun expressed the commission’s best wishes as they retire from service.

The move by INEC to enforce this retirement policy underscores a significant transformation within the organization and raises discussions about the impact it will have on the commission’s leadership and operations. This development will undoubtedly be closely monitored by stakeholders and the public as INEC adapts to the changes in its leadership structure.
