Jos Water Services Corporation Aims to Increase Water Access to 30% of Residents

In a recent meeting with the newly appointed executives of the Jos Water Services Corporation (JWSC), Apollos Samchi, the managing director, revealed that only 30% of the population in Jos-Bukuru has access to clean pipe-borne water. Samchi, a water resource engineer, highlighted several factors contributing to this issue, including poor maintenance of facilities, dysfunctional pipe networks, rapid urbanization, and unreliable electricity supply.

Samchi emphasized the need for JWSC to pump a minimum of 4,000,000 liters of water daily to meet the city’s water demand. To address these challenges and improve service delivery while enhancing revenue generation, he and the new executives have devised a comprehensive action plan spanning two to six months to revamp the corporation.

In an effort to ensure adequate water supply in Jos and its environs, the corporation aims to achieve a daily water supply of 3,500,000 liters. Samchi also expressed the corporation’s commitment to implementing performance targets to enhance staff productivity and revenue generation. He called upon all staff members to fulfill their duties diligently to support the corporation’s objectives.

Yengurum Shakum, the Union chairman of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), pledged unwavering support from the staff to help JWSC reach its full potential, signaling a unified effort to address water accessibility issues in the region.
