In anticipation of the upcoming Supreme Court judgement in the appeal filed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), the Kano State Police Command has vowed to maintain peace and security. The appeal is against the governor’s sacking by the Appeal Court, and there are concerns about potential unrest following the verdict.
During an interactive session with journalists in Kano, Commissioner of Police Hussaini Gumel assured the public of safety before, during, and after the Supreme Court judgement. He emphasized the implementation of security measures to protect residents and their businesses, emphasizing the deployment of armed personnel to flashpoints such as political party offices, government institutions, banks, places of worship, recreation centers, and motor parks.
Gumel reiterated that the police are committed to safeguarding law-abiding citizens, allowing them to carry on with their daily activities without fear for their lives and property. He further stated that armed security personnel will be strategically positioned to conduct surveillance and provide physical security during and after the Supreme Court judgement.
The police’s declaration of preparedness serves as a reassurance to the residents of Kano amidst the heightened anticipation of the Supreme Court’s decision. As the tension builds up, the promise of safety from the police offers a glimmer of hope for a peaceful and orderly post-judgement period.
