Rivers Assembly Unanimously Confirms 9 Ex-Commissioners for Reinstatement

In a watershed moment, the Rivers House of Assembly has granted confirmation to nine former Commissioner nominees slated for reinstatement, ushering in a new era of political reconciliation in the state. The nominees, including prominent figures like Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN), Jacobson Mbina, Gift Worlu, Inime Chinwenwo-Aguma, Chukwuemeka Woke, Prof. Chinedu Mmom, George-Kelly Alabo, Isaac Kamalu, and Austin Chioma, were accorded the rare privilege of taking a bow and leaving, eschewing the customary rigorous screening process.

During a momentous Wednesday plenary at the assembly’s temporary chambers in the state residential quarters, Speaker Martin Amaewhule (Obio Akpor 1) read a missive dated Dec. 11, 2023, from Governor Siminalayi Fubara, soliciting the screening and confirmation of the nine Commissioner nominees, who had previously resigned from office amid the state’s political turmoil.

House Majority Leader Major Jack (Akuku-Turu 1) moved a motion in response to the governor’s letter, proposing that the nominees be allowed to take a bow and depart, citing their prior screening for the same purpose. The motion received resounding endorsement from Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol (Gokana) and garnered unanimous support from all 22 legislators present at the historic plenary.

Beyond mere formalities, the nominees were gracefully ushered through the confirmation process, signifying a crucial step towards restoring political harmony and governance stability in Rivers State.

The unanimous decision by the assembly marks a significant turning point in the state’s political landscape, heralding a spirit of inclusivity and conciliation. As Rivers State navigates these transformative times, the reinstatement of these former Commissioners underscores a collective commitment to forge a path of unity and progress.
