The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that five political parties are set to compete in the Yobe East Senatorial by-election in Yobe State, Nigeria.

During a briefing for journalists, Yobe State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, announced that the participating political parties in the upcoming by-election are the African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Abdullahi emphasized that campaigning by these parties must cease 24 hours before the election day, scheduled for February 1, 2024, in accordance with electoral regulations. The electoral activities will span across eight local government areas, 75 registration areas, and 993 polling units within the Yobe East Senatorial constituency, with an additional unit in Fika town.

Furthermore, Abdullahi disclosed that 4,232 ad-hoc staff members have been designated for deployment, and 1,339 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines will be utilized for the accreditation process.
