The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has established a Special Task Force across its Zonal Commands to crackdown on currency mutilation and the dollarization of the economy.
EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, announced this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Oyewale highlighted that the Task Force, initiated by EFCC’s Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, aims to safeguard the economy from abuses, leakages, and distortions that lead to instability and disruptions.
He noted, “The commission has already apprehended individuals involved in issuing invoices in dollars and mutilating the Naira in Lagos and Port Harcourt. Additionally, proprietors of private universities and other higher education institutions charging fees in dollars have been summoned by the commission.”
Oyewale affirmed the commission’s dedication to upholding existing laws meant to revive and invigorate the economy.
