Nigerian Regulator Reports 43,632 New Metered Electricity Customers in December

In December 2023, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) announced that electricity distribution companies had metered 43,631 new power consumers. This brought the total number of metered electricity customers to 5,842,726, while 7,319,846 customers remained unmetered.

NERC’s official report revealed that the metering rate was 44.39% during this period. Among the electricity distribution companies, Ikeja DisCo recorded the highest metering rate at 72.52% (2,562 metered customers in December), followed by Abuja DisCo at 60.55% (6,620 metered customers).

The total number of registered customers in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry increased to 13,162,572 in December 2023 from 13,112,134 in November. Ibadan DisCo had the highest number of customers on its network, with 2,401,864 registered customers, followed by Abuja DisCo with 1,414,356 registered customers.

During the same period, NERC received 91,576 complaints, with metering accounting for the highest number of complaints at 57,119 cases, followed by billing at 17,734 cases. Other complaints related to interruption (6,510), voltage (1,244), disconnection (1,182), load shedding (422), delay (169), and miscellaneous issues (17,194).
