Residents in parts of the southeastern region are facing severe electricity shortages, with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) claiming it is not to blame for the situation.
According to Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, the organization stated that the issue is beyond their control. The company attributed the power shortage to low energy generation, resulting in a decrease in available power.
Ezeh emphasized that the reduced energy generation has led to a decline in the daily megawatt hours allocated to distribution companies nationwide, consequently affecting the quality of service to customers.
“We understand the inconvenience this situation has caused our valued customers and appeal for their understanding as it is beyond our control,” Ezeh appealed. “We can only distribute what is allocated to us.”
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, attributed the nationwide drop in electricity supply to gas constraints and debts. In response, he established a committee to address the issue.
