LP Presidential Campaign Funds to be Publicly Accounted For, Assures Candidate Peter Obi

In the aftermath of the 2023 presidential election, Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi has pledged to provide a transparent account of all donations received during his campaign. This commitment follows allegations of misappropriation within the party’s ranks, with the suspended National Treasurer, Oluchi Opara, accusing the National Chairman, Julius Abure, of mishandling N3.5 billion.

Obi’s announcement signals a proactive approach to addressing concerns surrounding campaign finances. He took to X to declare, “Yesterday, we commenced the public accounting process for Obi-Datti Campaign Funds for the 2023 general election, starting with the crowdfunding, which was where we asked the general citizens to contribute to our endeavor.” The process, overseen by a team led by @AishaYesufu, intends to demonstrate accountability to all supporters, ensuring that their contributions were utilized in alignment with the campaign’s objectives.

Moreover, Obi outlined plans to extend this financial transparency to various support groups and organizations that rallied behind his candidacy. Additionally, he revealed intentions to embark on a “Thank You tour” across the nation, expressing gratitude to supporters and showcasing the tangible impact achieved through meticulous resource management, despite operating with limited funds.

The reassurance provided by Obi acknowledges the invaluable role played by donors and supporters in advancing the democratic process, emphasizing their unwavering dedication. As the LP candidate, Peter Obi’s proactive stance toward financial accountability sets a noteworthy precedent in political campaign transparency.
