President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, were photographed together during Tinubu’s visit to the State House in Abuja. The image was released by the State House.
On Thursday, Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed affirmed that President Buhari fully supports the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu. Mohammed made the statement after clarifying remarks he gave to State House correspondents on Wednesday, where he said he had been misquoted. In his post‑FEC briefing, the minister had noted that the government was not “officially aware” of any entity in the Presidential Villa working against the APC standard‑bearer, adding, “If there’s anybody who is working against any candidate, we don’t know officially.”
Kaduna State Governor Nasir El‑Rufai had earlier claimed that some elements in the Presidential Villa were acting against Tinubu. Responding to that allegation, Lai Mohammed said, “First, let me use this occasion to make a quick clarification. Yesterday, while reacting to a question at the post‑FEC briefing at the State House, I said, inter alia, that the President is committed to free, fair and credible elections, and that he is doing everything possible to ensure a level playing field for all contestants.”
He continued, “This comment has been misinterpreted in some circles, especially regarding the President’s support for our party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I want to say unequivocally that the President is in total support of our party’s flag bearer, as evidenced by his ongoing campaign with the candidate across the country. It is preposterous to suggest that the President, who is the leader of our party, is equivocating in his support for our presidential candidate. I hope this clears any ambiguity that may have arisen from my statement yesterday.”
