Retired Military Officer Challenges Farida Waziri’s Account of Alleged Coup

Retired Colonel Bello Fadile, a former military officer and human rights lawyer, has countered the portrayal of his role in the alleged 1995 coup by Farida Waziri, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In response to excerpts from Waziri’s book, “Farida Waziri: One Step Ahead,” Fadile expressed concern over the misrepresentation of his involvement.

Fadile highlighted discrepancies in Waziri’s account, specifically regarding his role in the alleged coup. He emphasized that Waziri’s narrative was limited by her understanding of the events, resulting in inaccuracies and gaps in her book.

He expressed his intention to provide a comprehensive and accurate account of the events in his forthcoming book, “Nine Lives: The Bello Fadile Memoirs,” stating, “The portrayal of my role in the alleged coup, as depicted in Waziri’s book, is far from accurate. The truth can be found in the Oputa Panel proceedings, where I provided my testimony, despite government attempts to manipulate the process.”

Fadile reassured the public of his commitment to revealing the genuine and complete truth in his upcoming book, emphasizing the need for a fair and comprehensive exposé of the “Back to Barracks Campaign,” a project he referenced in his response.

This rebuttal marks a challenge to the existing narrative, promising a more detailed and accurate account that aims to set the record straight.
