Benue State Legislators Warned Against Politicizing Insecurity Issues

Benue State’s National Assembly Caucus, led by Senator Abba Moro, is under fire for politicizing the security crisis in the state. The caucus criticized Governor Hyacinth Alia’s handling of the killings and displacements in different local government areas and denounced the appointment of caretaker committees by the state government.

Responding to the criticisms, Comrade Daniel Onjeh, an APC senatorial candidate, cautioned against politicizing the lives of Benue people and advised the lawmakers to focus on their roles as federal legislators instead. Onjeh questioned the sudden vocal stance of the caucus under the APC administration, referencing their lack of criticism during the previous PDP administration.

Onjeh also raised concerns about the NASS Caucus’ knowledge of the true cause of insecurity in the state, urging them to share any pertinent information. He emphasized that the formation of local government caretaker committees is not unique to Benue State and is a trend in many other Nigerian states, each facing its security challenges.

Onjeh concluded that the actions of the Benue NASS Caucus are undemocratic and unfair to the electorate. He highlighted the need for the caucus to desist from making baseless statements that justify the attacks on their constituents by herders.
