Netflix announced the upcoming release of “House of Ga’a” at an International Women’s Day event, celebrating female filmmakers and members of the Nigerian film community. Directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters, known for the award-winning “Man of God,” the biopic delves into the 18th-century reign of Bashorun Ga’a, a powerful figure who controlled the thrones of kings.

The star-studded cast includes Femi Branch, Mike Afolarin, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, Ibrahim Chatta, Dele Odule, Bimbo Manuel, Lateef Adedimeji, Femi Adebayo, Gabriel Afolayan, Jide ‘JBlaze’ Oyegbile, Seun Akindele, Yemi Blaq, Adeniyi Johnson, Muyiwa Ademola, Willam Benson, Gbenga Titiloye, and Kunle Coker.

While the release date remains unknown, Austen-Peters teased the project in May 2023 during filming, expressing excitement for the production. Netflix’s commitment to showcasing diverse narratives was reiterated by Dorothy Ghettuba, the Director of Content in Sub-Saharan Africa, at the ‘Her Voice, Our Story’ event.

In addition to “House of Ga’a,” Netflix will feature other female-led projects this year, including “Baby Farm,” a TV series, and “Òlòtūré: The Journey,” a film by Mo Abudu; “Postcards,” a TV series by Hamisha Daryani Ahuja; and “To Kill a Monkey,” a TV series by Kemi Adetiba. The streaming giant aims to amplify the voices of women in the creative industry and promote cultural storytelling.
