Tinubu Meets Akpabio and Lawmakers Amid Budget Padding Allegations

President Bola Tinubu is currently in a crucial meeting at the State House in Abuja with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, and other lawmakers. This gathering follows the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi from the Senate, who had raised allegations of a N3 trillion padding in the 2024 budget.

The suspension of Senator Ningi came after he created a stir over the weekend by claiming that significant damage had been done to the north and the entire country through the budget. The national assembly had initially approved a budget of 28.7 trillion for the upcoming fiscal year, despite Tinubu’s proposal of N27.5 trillion. The lawmakers decided to increase the budget by N1.2 trillion.

Senator Ningi, undeterred by the suspension, boldly stated, “If it is a cross that I have to carry, I will carry it. I’m not afraid of anything. I believe in one God and I believe that power is transient.” He further expressed his readiness to face any consequences, emphasizing his commitment to his beliefs.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, Senator Ningi arrived with supporting documents, asserting that he had concrete evidence to substantiate his claims. This development has sparked intense discussions and debates within the political sphere, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in budgetary matters.

As the meeting at the State House unfolds, tensions run high as key stakeholders deliberate on the implications of Senator Ningi’s allegations. The outcome of this gathering could potentially shape the future trajectory of budgetary processes and governance in Nigeria.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
