Former Edo State Commissioner Alleges Governor Obaseki’s Third Term Ambition

Former Edo State commissioner for information, Andrew Emwanta, has made a startling claim against Governor Godwin Obaseki, suggesting that he is harboring ambitions for a third term in office. Emwanta made these allegations during an interview with Arise TV on Monday night, in response to the impeachment of former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.

The impeachment of Shaibu by the Edo State Assembly on Monday came after a seven-man panel, led by Justice S.A. Omonua (rtd), investigated the impeachment petition against the deputy governor. The panel’s report stated that while the allegation of perjury against Shaibu was not proven beyond reasonable doubt, the accusation of disclosing government official documents was substantiated.

Emwanta, who was once a member of Obaseki’s administration, claimed that the governor colluded with assembly members to remove Shaibu from office in order to clear the path for his alleged third term agenda. Emwanta asserted that Shaibu was seen as a threat by Obaseki, leading to his ousting.

According to Emwanta, Obaseki is determined to secure a third term in office by any means necessary, and believes that by eliminating Shaibu, he can further his political ambitions. The decision on whether Obaseki will be granted the opportunity to pursue a third term, Emwanta emphasized, ultimately lies in the hands of the people of Edo State.

These allegations have sparked controversy and raised questions about the political landscape in Edo State. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the people of Edo will respond to these claims and what implications they may have for the future of the state.
