University of Calabar Registrar Denies Failed Accreditation Allegations

Gabriel Egbe, the Registrar of the University of Calabar (UniCal), has vehemently denied claims of failed accreditation in a recent statement. The alleged warning, reportedly issued by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), raised concerns about the accreditation status of Engineering courses at the university.

In response, Mr. Egbe clarified that there is no record of failed accreditation at UniCal. He expressed surprise at the publication attributed to COREN, titled “Get Properly Accredited or Risk Blacklisting, Engineering Council warns UniCal, Adamawa Varsity.” The Registrar emphasized that COREN’s responsibility is to ensure professional accreditation of Engineering programs in Nigerian universities.

Mr. Egbe highlighted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) must conduct accreditation before any professional body, as per established procedures. He revealed that NUC recently visited UniCal for accreditation, including programs in the Faculty of Engineering. The results are pending, and the university awaits COREN’s official invitation for professional accreditation based on the outcome.

The Registrar urged COREN to follow standard procedures and refrain from damaging UniCal’s reputation under the guise of recommendations. He called for professionalism and caution, emphasizing the importance of nurturing future professionals.

In conclusion, Mr. Egbe’s statement refutes claims of failed accreditation at UniCal and underscores the need for accurate and responsible communication in the academic sector. The university remains committed to upholding high standards and awaits further accreditation processes.
