Troops Neutralise 188 Terrorists, Rescue 133 Hostages: Weekly Security Update

In the past week, troops in Nigeria have made significant strides in combating terrorism, with at least 188 terrorists neutralized and 330 others arrested across the country. Additionally, 133 hostages were rescued during this period, showcasing the dedication and bravery of the military forces.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Edward Buba, shared that a variety of weapons were recovered from the terrorists, including 122 AK47 rifles, 47 locally-fabricated guns, and Improvised Explosive Devices. The troops also seized 5,083 pieces of ammunition from the terrorists, further weakening their capabilities.

In the Northeast region, troops of “Operation Hadin Kai” successfully neutralized 68 terrorists, arrested 182 suspects, and rescued 53 hostages. The recovery of various weapons such as AK47 rifles, PKT guns, and hand grenades highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the area.

Moreover, in the North Central and Northwest regions, operations led to the neutralization of insurgents, arrests of violent extremists, and the rescue of hostages. The air component of the operations played a crucial role in targeting terrorist hideouts and disrupting their activities.

In the South-South region, troops of “Operation Delta Safe” uncovered and destroyed illegal refining sites, dugout pits, and storage tanks used by oil thieves. The recovery of stolen crude oil and illegally-refined diesel demonstrates the commitment to combating illegal activities in the region.

Furthermore, in the Southeast, troops of “Operation UDO KA” successfully neutralized terrorists, arrested violent extremists, and rescued hostages. The recovery of various weapons and ammunition underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.

Overall, the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian military have led to significant progress in combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of the population.
