Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the escalating political tensions in Rivers State, Nigeria. The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, is facing criticism for allegedly orchestrating a threat of impeachment against Governor Siminalayi Fubara by members of the State Assembly led by Marthin Amaewhule.

Eze, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has urged Tinubu to rein in Wike and prevent what he sees as a breakdown of democratic institutions in the state. He described the lawmakers as “the minister’s foot soldiers” and emphasized the need for intervention to maintain stability.

Governor Fubara recently expressed frustration with some Local Government chairmen in the state, accusing them of disrespect. The ongoing power struggle between the governor and his predecessor, along with support from certain local government chairmen and state assembly members for the Minister, has further complicated the situation.

Despite the impeachment threats, Eze emphasized that there is no evidence of wrongdoing by Governor Fubara to justify such drastic measures. He encouraged the governor to focus on delivering good governance to the people of Rivers State and not be deterred by political distractions.

As tensions continue to rise in Rivers State, it is crucial for leaders like President Tinubu to step in and ensure that democratic processes are upheld. The future of the state’s governance hangs in the balance, and decisive action is needed to prevent further instability.
