The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) recently awarded certificates of return to the winners of the April 6 Local Government Area elections. The ceremony, held at the NUJ Press Centre in Yenagoa, saw the 8 Local Government Council Chairmen and their Vice Chairmen, all from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), receive their certificates.
Dr. Peter Singabele, the Chairman of BYSIEC, emphasized that issuing certificates of return was the final step in the 2024 election process. He highlighted the importance of the elected officials being sworn in and operating as the third tier of government at the grassroots level.
One of the newly elected Chairmen, Bulodisiye Ndiwara of Yenagoa LGA, expressed gratitude to BYSIEC for the successful conclusion of the election. He praised the PDP for their support and acknowledged the voters for their trust.
Mrs. Alice Allen Tangi, the only female Chairman-elect of Sagbama LGA, outlined her vision for governance in the area. She promised to focus on agriculture, human capacity development, and education funding to benefit the community. Tangi also emphasized the importance of empowering the girl child and supporting local farmers during her tenure.
The event marked a significant milestone in Bayelsa’s local governance, with the newly elected officials poised to make a positive impact on their respective communities.
