Kogi State Governor Visits Predecessor Amid EFCC Siege

Kogi State Governor Usman Udodo made a surprise visit to his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, at his residence in Abuja. The visit came amidst a tense situation as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had surrounded Bello’s home in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, in an attempt to arrest him as part of an ongoing investigation.

The EFCC had recently implicated Bello in a corruption case, alleging that he, along with his nephew Ali Bello and associate Dauda Suleiman, had diverted funds belonging to Kogi State for personal use. The total amount involved was a staggering N80.2 billion.

However, Bello defended himself by pointing to a court order issued by the Kogi State High Court of Justice, which prohibited the EFCC from harassing, arresting, detaining, or prosecuting him until a fundamental rights enforcement action had been heard and determined.

The situation at Bello’s residence was captured in a video that circulated on social media, showing Governor Ododo arriving as EFCC operatives attempted to carry out the arrest.

The visit and subsequent events have sparked a debate about the rule of law, corruption, and the power dynamics between government officials and law enforcement agencies. As the story continues to unfold, it raises questions about accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s political landscape.
