Massive Defection: APC Members in Kano State Join NNPP for Progress

In a significant political shift, over 1,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State made a bold move by decamping to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Saturday. The defectors, hailing from Shanono and Bagwai local government areas, were warmly welcomed by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Kano State Government House.

A press release from the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, highlighted Gwarzo’s enthusiasm in receiving the new members and emphasized the NNPP’s commitment to unity and equality among all its members. The administration’s dedication to implementing programs for the benefit of all Kano State residents was reiterated, with a call for continued support from the community for the state’s progress.

Alhaji Haruna Babangida Abbas (Kosashe), the leader of the defectors, praised Governor Abba’s leadership qualities and governance style as the driving force behind their decision to switch parties. Expressing remorse for their past affiliation with the APC, Abbas pledged unwavering dedication to collaborating with the NNPP for the betterment of Kano.

Kano NNPP Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, extended a warm welcome to the new members and assured their active participation in the party’s activities. He also urged members of other parties, including the APC, to consider joining the NNPP for the advancement of the state, while emphasizing the importance of supporting government policies.

The event, graced by prominent figures such as Kano State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Musa Suleiman Shanono, and various NNPP stakeholders, celebrated the influx of new members and marked a significant turning point in the political landscape of Kano State.
