WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that lets users upload voice notes as status updates. Users can record and share voice notes up to 30 seconds long, adding an audio dimension to the familiar status format. This rollout follows a surge in voice messaging on the platform, with WhatsApp reporting an average of 7 billion voice messages sent daily. The move reflects the service’s effort to cater to users who prefer speaking over typing.

To use the voice‑note status, users simply tap the microphone icon on the status screen. The update also includes a “private audience selector,” which allows users to choose who can view each status. A new audience selector button appears on the status screen, opening a menu where users can set visibility preferences. The most recent audience choice is saved and applied as the default for subsequent status updates.
