The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have announced plans to streamline physical security checks at airports in response to travellers’ complaints about delays caused by multiple checks.
FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku revealed that the agency and the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) have devised short and long-term measures to address the issue. One such measure involves the establishment of a joint coordination room where all agencies can conduct necessary checks by monitoring CCTV cameras.
Kuku emphasized that addressing the issue of multiple security checkpoints was a top priority upon assuming office. She has engaged in constructive discussions with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to find practical solutions to the issue.
The initiative aims to reduce the number of agencies involved in security checks at airports, streamlining the process for travellers. Additionally, a joint coordination room will utilize existing CCTV infrastructure to facilitate monitoring and observation, alleviating the need for redundant physical checks.
