Earthquake: Mother dies after giving birth under collapsed building

A pregnant woman who was trapped under a collapsed building in Aleppo, Syria after Monday morning’s earthquake has given birth to her child but unfortunately, the woman didn’t make it out of the collapsed building.

According to the video circulating on social media, the new born child was rescued by rescue workers.

Reports has it that the dramatic scene unfolded just hours after a Syrian volunteer organization shared video showing a young child being pulled alive from the earthquake rubble in the village of Qatma.

Following the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that ripped through parts of Turkey and Syria, the World Health Organisation has said 1.4 million children out of 23 million people are at risk of being exposed due to the level of damage the earth quake caused.

On Tuesday morning, Turkey’s vice-president, Fuat Oktay, said 3,419 people had been killed in the quake, with another 20,534 injured while in embattled Syria, the number of confirmed deaths has risen to 1,602, bringing the death toll in both countries to 5,021.

Also, Turkey’s disaster management agency stated that there are reports of 11,342 collapsed buildings, of which 5,775 had been confirmed.
