LockBit Leader Unmasked: US Offers $10 Million Reward for Khoroshev’s Capture

In a major development in the fight against cybercrime, the US Department of State announced a $10 million reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Dmitry Yuryevich Khoroshev, also known as LockBitSupp. Khoroshev is believed to be the leader of the notorious LockBit ransomware gang, responsible for cyberattacks on thousands of victims worldwide.

LockBit has emerged as a significant threat, deploying ransomware that encrypts a victim’s data and demands a ransom payment for decryption. The group has targeted a wide range of organizations, causing significant disruptions and financial losses.

“LockBit’s criminal activity has caused immense harm,” stated a spokesperson for the Department of State. “This reward program demonstrates our unwavering commitment to bringing those responsible to justice and disrupting their operations.”

The unmasking of Khoroshev believed to be a Russian national, follows a coordinated effort by international law enforcement agencies. The US Department of Justice has also indicted Khoroshev on numerous charges related to his alleged role in LockBit’s operations.

“We are committed to working with our international partners to hold cybercriminals accountable,” said a representative of the Department of Justice. “This indictment and reward program sends a clear message that cybercrime will not be tolerated.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Khoroshev’s whereabouts or LockBit’s activities to come forward. The Department of State has established secure channels for receiving confidential tips, ensuring the safety of those who provide crucial information.
