Nigerian Customs Service Forges Key Partnership with Chinese Customs Authority

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has achieved a significant milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC). This collaboration aims to strengthen bilateral ties and promote economic growth between the two nations.

According to Abdullahi Maiwada, the Customs spokesperson, the MoU was formalized during a visit to Shenzhen, China, led by the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Adewale Adeniyi, along with his management team. Adeniyi emphasized the importance of fostering closer relations with China, highlighting the potential to enhance import-export operations and support the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria.

The CGC commended Vice Minister Wang Lingjun of the General Administration of Customs of China for expressing interest in signing the MoU with the NCS. He also acknowledged the significant role of e-commerce in driving business opportunities, stating, “We know a lot of Nigerian companies and SMEs take advantage of the opportunities aided through e-commerce.”

Adeniyi expressed confidence that the MoU will serve as a vital framework for collaboration on security standards and economic stability between the customs agencies of both countries. He emphasized the importance of bilateral trade, recognizing China as a key trading partner for Nigeria.

Mr. Wang Lingjun, representing Vice Minister Sun Yuning, signed the MoU on behalf of the People’s Republic of China. He expressed satisfaction with CGC Adeniyi’s vision, emphasizing the potential for the collaboration to create opportunities for economic cooperation and trade facilitation between Nigeria and China.

The partnership between the Nigerian Customs Service and the General Administration of Customs of China marks a significant step towards strengthening economic ties and fostering mutual development between the two nations.
