Air Peace Faces Safety Violation Allegations from UK After Duke and Duchess of Sussex Flew Airline in Nigeria

The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) has raised safety concerns about Nigerian airline Air Peace. The UK CAA notified Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) of alleged safety violations by Air Peace, which recently started flights between Lagos and London, sparking a price war among carriers.

Two incident reports on Air Peace were sent to the UK CAA, which then forwarded the complaints to the NCAA. The UK CAA’s complaint, titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report” and “NATS Management System Safety Report,” highlighted issues with Air Peace’s operations.

The NCAA, in a letter dated May 14, 2024, and signed by General Manager of Operations Capt. O.O. Lawani requested clarification from Air Peace. The letter noted concerns over the use of an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) without proper operational approval, lacking a mounting device, charging points, or backup battery.

Air Peace has not yet responded to these allegations. The scrutiny follows Air Peace’s launch of operations at London Gatwick on April 25, under Nigeria’s Bilateral Air Services Agreement with the UK.

This development comes shortly after Air Peace’s founder and CEO, Dr. Allen Onyema, welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during their recent visit to Nigeria, where they used Air Peace for their three-day tour.
