DSS and Police Invade Cross Rivers State Assembly After Speaker’s Impeachment

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) invaded the Cross Rivers State Assembly Complex on Wednesday, following the impeachment of Speaker Elvert Anyambem. The impeachment led to a brawl within the House.

Anyambem, who represents Ikom 2 State Constituency, was impeached by 17 members of the Assembly on allegations of misappropriating funds. Members of the Assembly had raised concerns about the Speaker’s behaviour and his management of the Assembly.

Following the impeachment, members took away the mace, the symbol of authority in the Assembly.
