The Presidency has dismissed circulating reports that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, along with the Federal Government negotiating team, have proposed N105,000 as the new minimum wage.
Following the organized labour’s declaration of a nationwide strike, the Federal Government engaged in negotiations with union leaders and reached an agreement. President Bola Tinubu subsequently directed the Finance Minister to draft a new minimum wage proposal within 48 hours.
Edun and his team met with the President on Thursday, but the outcome of their meeting was not disclosed. Despite reports suggesting that Edun’s team proposed a new minimum wage of N105,000, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, refuted these claims.
“The Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun, has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false,” Onanuga tweeted.
