Schengen Visa Fee for Nigerians and African Nationals Increases to £90

Nigerians and other African nationals seeking a Schengen Visa to enter the European Union will now have to pay an extra £10, as the visa fee has surged to £90 from £80. The latest data released by Schengen visa statistics indicates this increase, effective from June 11, 2024.

In 2023, African nationals received 704,000 negative responses for their visa requests, resulting in €56.3 million spent on visa applications. For Nigerian citizens alone, 34.80 percent of applications were rejected, amounting to €3.4 million in fees for EU countries from rejected applications.

Morocco leads in the number of Schengen Visa Applications. Rejection rates in 2023 were particularly high for African and Asian countries, which accounted for 90 percent of all expenses.

The EU Commission’s recent decision will see visa fees for adults rise from €80 to €90, a 12.5 percent increase starting June 11.
